Regular Season Round 6: Piratas - Iccan 86-94
Date: August 4, 2017
The game between Top Four teams took place in Ibarra. 3rd ranked host Piratas (3-3) lost to first ranked Iccan (5-1) 94-86. It looked good early as Piratas took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Iccan had a 30-20 second period charge getting the lead and Piratas were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 86-94. Iccan made 22-of-27 charity shots (81.5 percent) during the game, while Piratas only scored six points from the stripe. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Venezuelan guard Jesus Centeno (190-85) notched 26 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort and Colombian-Venezuelan forward Zapata Jackson (198-85) supported him with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Even a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds by American forward Willie Clayton (203-92, college: Georgia St.) did not help to save the game for Piratas. The former international center Carlos Delgado (202-90) added 21 points. Five Iccan and four Piratas players scored in double figures. Piratas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Iccan have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-1 record. Piratas at the other side dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. Iccan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Guayaquil Barcelona.
