Regular Season Round 23: Henan - Fujian 134-131

Tenth-ranked Fujian (10-13) gave a tough game to first ranked Henan (19-4) on Wednesday. Henan managed to secure only three-point victory 134-131. However their fans expected much easier game. Fujian trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 41-28 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 131-134 at the end of the game. Henan made 29-of-35 free shots (82.9 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Fujian helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Nigerian-American point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) who led his team to a victory scoring 44 points (!!!) and 8 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!). American-Nigerian center Chris Otule (211-90, college: Marquette) helped adding 28 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks. American forward Brandon Bowman (206-84, college: Georgetown) responded with a double-double by scoring 44 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and Ivorian-French point guard Mouloukou-Souleyman Diabate (181-87) scored 49 points (!!!), 5 assists and 4 steals. Five Henan and four Fujian players scored in double figures. Fujian's coach Jiulong Liu tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Henan maintains first place with 19-4 record. Fujian at the other side dropped to the ninth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Lhasa. Henan are looking forward to face Jiangsu L. (#13) in He Fei in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Fujian will play on the road against Luoyang (#5) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
