Regular Season Round 24: Guangxi - Lhasa 122-101
Date: August 18, 2017
There was no surprise when 9th ranked Lhasa (10-14) was crushed on the road by seventh ranked Guangxi (14-10) 122-101 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Guangxi. Lhasa was better in second period 33-31. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Marcus Thornton (193-93, college: William & Mary) who scored 50 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Indian-Canadian center Sim Bhullar (226-92, college: N.Mexico St.) chipped in 9 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Jonathan Kreft (213-86, college: Florida St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 19 rebounds and Zhennan Zhang added 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Guangxi have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 14-10 record. Lhasa lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 14 games lost. Guangxi will face higher ranked Guizhou (#3) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Lhasa will play against Beijing (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
