Regular Season Round 24: Shaanxi W. - Anhui 116-89

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Xian. Second ranked Shaanxi W. faced 4th ranked Anhui. Host Shaanxi W. (19-5) smashed guests from Anhui (16-8) 116-89. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Anhui. The game without a history. Shaanxi W. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Anhui's 48. They outrebounded Anhui 46-26 including a 36-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Anhui was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was dominated by American players. It was a good game for forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 44 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds (on 20-of-24 shooting from the field). Forward Troy Gillenwater (205-88, college: N.Mexico St.) contributed with 31 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Chris Johnson (210-85, college: LSU) replied with 24 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Manny Harris (196-89, college: Michigan) added 22 points in the effort for Anhui. Four Anhui players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Shaanxi W. have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 19-5 record behind leader Henan. Anhui at the other side keeps the fourth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Hunan and Luoyang. Shaanxi W. will play against Chongqing (#8) in Lanling in the next round where they are favorite. Anhui will play on the road against Hebei X. (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
