Regular Season Round 4: Pinheiros - America 83-72

Rather expected game when 6th ranked America (2-4) lost to fourth ranked Pinheiros (3-2) in Sao Paolo 72-83. The game was mostly controlled by Pinheiros. America was better in fourth quarter 30-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding America to just 4 points in second quarter. They outrebounded America 47-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. Pinheiros players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. The former international forward Marcus-Vinicius Toledo (201-86) fired 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Felipe Ruivo (189-98) chipped in 25 points. American point guard Darnell Artis (175, college: Gwynedd-Mercy) produced 24 points and 7 assists and Radames Santos (204-91) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinheiros moved-up to third place. America at the other side dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Pinheiros' next round opponent will be Liga Sorocaba (#4) in Sorocabana. America will play at home against the league's leader Vivo/Franca and hope to win that game.
