Regular Season Round 5: Alaska Aces - B.Ginebra 80-94

Bottom-ranked Alaska Aces (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 94-80 loss to fourth ranked B.Ginebra (4-1) in Makati on Saturday evening. B.Ginebra had a 49-37 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Alaska Aces' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when B.Ginebra made 9 blocks. American forward Justin Brownlee (197-88, college: St.John's) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Earl Thompson chipped in 8 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Brownlee is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four B.Ginebra players scored in double figures. Naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-88) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and forward LaDontae Henton (198-92, college: Providence) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. B.Ginebra have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Star Hotshots and Rain or Shine. Alaska Aces at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. B.Ginebra will meet at home Phoenix (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Alaska Aces will play against SM Beermen and hope to get finally their first victory.
