Regular Season Round 6: B.Ginebra - Phoenix 105-92

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked B.Ginebra as it allowed them to take a leadership position. B.Ginebra defeated 9th ranked Phoenix in Manila 105-92. B.Ginebra dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix's 50. B.Ginebra forced 19 Phoenix turnovers and outrebounded them 73-46 including a 32-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when B.Ginebra made 7 blocks. It was a good game for American forward Justin Brownlee (197-88, college: St.John's) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Center Japeth Aguilar (206-85, college: W.Kentucky) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Brownlee is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American Brandon Brown (201-85, college: CS San Bernar.) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks and naturalized Canadian guard Matthew Wright (193-91, college: St.Bonaventure) added 21 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Phoenix. Five B.Ginebra and four Phoenix players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. B.Ginebra (6-1) have an impressive six-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Phoenix lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth place with six games lost. Phoenix will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. B.Ginebra will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Blackwater in Caloocan City.
