The game between second ranked Barcelona (8-5) and seventh ranked Portoviejo (5-8) was the most important one in the last round on Thursday night. Barcelona was defeated by Portoviejo in a tough game in Guayaquil 77-81. Portoviejo made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Strangely Barcelona outrebounded Portoviejo 48-34 including a 41-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. Adriano Barredas (-92) fired 31 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. International guard Jonathan Arboleda (190-95) chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Panamanian Daniel King (203-87, college: Texas Southern) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 16 rebounds and the former international guard Raul Cardenas (190-82, college: Faulkner) added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Four Barcelona players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains seventh place with 5-8 record. Barcelona at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. They share it with Leones. Portoviejo are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Triple E-Uda (#8) in Gualaceo in the next round. Barcelona's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Guayaquil Iccan.
