Regular Season Round 1: Samaheej - Al-Ittihad 56-90

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Manama: Al-Ittihad (#4) and Samaheej (#12). Samaheej was crushed at home by 34 points 56-90. Al-Ittihad dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Samaheej's 26. They outrebounded Samaheej 62-25 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al-Ittihad looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Samaheej's players. It was a very good performance for American forward Antwan Wilkerson (201-91, college: Johnson C. Smith) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists. Sayed-Mohd Hameed contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Al-Ittihad players scored in double figures. Hussain Busafwan answered with 19 points and Mohammed Busafwan added 17 points in the effort for Samaheej. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Al-Ittihad will face Sitra (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Samaheej will play against Al-Hala (#1) and hope to win that game.
