Regular Season Round 7: Meralco Bolts - Star Hotshots 96-90

Rather expected game in Manila where 6th ranked Star Hotshots (4-3) were defeated by third ranked Meralco Bolts (6-2) 96-90. Meralco Bolts made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Meralco Bolts outrebounded Star Hotshots 53-39 including 39 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a very good performance for American power forward Allen Durham (198-88, college: Grace Bible) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points, 27 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Chris Newsome (187, college: N.Mexico Highlands) contributed with 17 points and 7 assists for the winners. Worth to mention Durham played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Five Meralco Bolts players scored in double figures. American guard Malcolm Hill (198-95, college: Illinois, agency: Pensack Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Jiovani Jalalon (175) added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists in the effort for Star Hotshots. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Meralco Bolts moved-up to second place, which they share with NLEX RW. Star Hotshots lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Meralco Bolts' next round opponent will be Alaska Aces (#9) in Makati and are hoping to win another game. Star Hotshots will play at home against Globalport and hope to win that game.
