Regular Season Round 8: KIA Picanto - SM Beermen 112-118

Bottom-ranked KIA Picanto (0-10) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 118-112 loss to seventh ranked SM Beermen (6-3) in Makati City on Saturday evening. They made 30-of-38 free shots (78.9 percent) during the game, while KIA Picanto only scored eight points from the stripe. SM Beermen looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SM Beermen made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of center June Mar Fajardo (210-89) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds and American forward Terrence Watson (200-87, college: Ball St.) who added 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five SM Beermen players scored in double figures. American-Lebanese guard Geron Johnson (190-92, college: Memphis) responded with a double-double by scoring 42 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 8 assists and forward Mark Yee (191-82) scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SM Beermen have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with NLEX RW. Loser KIA Picanto still closes the standings with ten games lost. SM Beermen will meet at home Phoenix (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. KIA Picanto will play against Star Hotshots in Pasig City and hopes to get finally their first victory.
