Gran Canaria used a home court advantage and outleveled the opponent from Alcobendas 80-61 on Saturday night. The game without a history. Gran Canaria led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Alcobendas' 28 and made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Gran Canaria forced 19 Alcobendas turnovers and outrebounded them 41-28 including 17 on the offensive glass. Quite impressive performance for forward Maria Royo (178-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds. American guard Erica Covile (185, college: Temple) contributed with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Guard Paula Palomares (173-84) answered with 26 points and center Aitana Cuevas (189-86) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Alcobendas. Gran Canaria will face Olimpico 64 (#12) in Madrid in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Alcobendas will play at home against Valencia (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
