The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 16-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 79-77. South African center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: N.Mexico St.) had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Kiichi Kikuyama (178-92) chipped in 21 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots) during the contest. American center Will Creekmore (205-89, college: Missouri St.) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Billy McShepard (208-87, college: Valdosta St., agency: Blacktop Management) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Four Yamagata players scored in double figures. Yamagata's coach Joe Cook rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bambitious Nara will face Shinshu BW (#3) in Nagano in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
