An exciting game was played in Hafnarfjordur. Haukar faced Stjarnan. Host Haukar (1-0) defeated guests from Stjarnan (0-1) 73-66. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Stjarnan's 28. Haukar had a 35-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international swingman Helena Sverrisdottir (184-88, college: TCU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners and American guard Cherise Daniel (180-87, college: Ohio St.) chipped in 18 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. Haukar's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American guard Danielle Rodriguez (178-93, college: Utah) responded with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and power forward Sylvia-Run Halfdanardottir (182-98) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Haukar will meet at home Njardvik (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Stjarnan will play against Breidablik and hope to win that game.
