Regular Season Round 1: Adelaide - Sydney 91-80

Very expected game when Sydney Uni Flames (1-1) were defeated on the road by Adelaide Lightning (1-1) 91-80 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Adelaide Lightning. Sydney Uni Flames was better in second period 26-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Adelaide Lightning dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Sydney Uni Flames' 28. It was a great shooting night for Adelaide Lightning especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 64.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American guard Natalie Novosel (180-89, college: Notre Dame, agency: LBM Management) stepped up and scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and the former international guard Nicole Seekamp (178-92, college: S.Dakota) chipped in 16 points. Adelaide Lightning's coach Chris Lucas allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side international Katie-Rae Ebzery (177-90) responded with 20 points and 7 assists (made all of her eight free throws) and the former international Belinda Snell (180-81) scored 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Adelaide Lightning and four Sydney Uni Flames players scored in double figures. Adelaide Lightning will face Perth Lynx (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sydney Uni Flames will play against Dandenong Rangers (#7) and hope to win that game.
