Regular Season Round 2: Betsafe/Liepaja - Valmiera 83-81

A very interesting game took place in Liepaja. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of Valmiera (0-4) to Betsafe (1-1) 83-81 on Saturday evening. Valmiera was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. The best player for the winners was American power forward Kyle Benjamin (206-91, college: Bridgeport) who scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Swingman Girts Lazdans (203-95, college: Cent.Arizona JC) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Betsafe players scored in double figures. Point guard Janis Kaufmanis (186-89, agency: HMS) produced 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and center Viktors Iljins (212-91) added 16 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Betsafe will have a break next round. Valmiera will play on the road against Valka/Valga (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
