Regular Season Round 4: Gunma - Aomori Watts 93-74

There was a minor upset when bottom-ranked Aomori Watts (0-4) were smashed on the road by fifth ranked Gunma (2-2) 93-74 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 93-74. Gunma outrebounded Aomori Watts 35-17 including 25 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Ryan Stephan (208-94, college: Colorado Mesa) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. The other American import forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) contributed with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Gunma's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Keijiro Monma (185-94) replied with 28 points and American forward Nick Banyard (203-94, college: Cent.Florida) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Aomori Watts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gunma moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams. Aomori Watts at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Gunma will face Toyotsu FE (#3) in Nagoya in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Aomori Watts will play at home against the league's second-placed Fukushima and hope to get finally their first victory.
