Regular Season Round 4: Tokyo Z - Akita NH 83-91

No shocking result in a game when top-ranked Akita Happinets (4-0) beat on the road 6th ranked Tokyo Z (1-3) 91-83 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-83. Akita Happinets dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Tokyo Z's 22. Akita Happinets forced 21 Tokyo Z turnovers and outrebounded them 42-28 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Akita Happinets looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Tokyo Z was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American center Nigel Spikes (208-89, college: Marshall) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Takuya Nakayama (182-94) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five Akita Happinets players scored in double figures. Point guard Kashiwagura Kashiwagura (180-95) replied with 21 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots) and guard Shinji Akiba (185-93) added 17 points in the effort for Tokyo Z. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Akita Happinets have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record, which they share with Fukuoka Rizing and Shinshu BW. Tokyo Z at the other side dropped to the third place with three games lost. Akita Happinets will face league's leader Shinshu BW in Nagano in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tokyo Z will play on the road against Cyberdyne IR in Tsukuba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
