There was no surprise when Olimpico 64 (0-2) lost to Gran Canaria (2-0) in Madrid 70-81 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Gran Canaria. Olimpico 64 was better in third quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. American guard Erica Covile (185, college: Temple) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Maria Royo (178-86) contributed with 15 points and 4 assists for the winners. The former international power forward Irene Herradas (186-78) replied with 16 points and power forward Julia Rabadan (180-86) added 15 points in the effort for Olimpico 64. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Gran Canaria's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Las Palmas Magec Tias.
