There was a minor upset when leader Chiba Jets (3-1) were defeated at home by first ranked Kyoto Hannar. (3-1) 77-68 on Sunday. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 11 points after three quarters before their 26-6 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Kyoto Hannar. dominated on the defensive end, holding Chiba Jets to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Zimbabwean-American Julian Mavunga (203-90, college: Miami, OH, agency: Pensack Sports) stepped up and scored 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American center Joshua Smith (208-92, college: Georgetown) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Yuki Togashi (170-93) responded with 17 points and 7 assists and international power forward Ryumo Ono (197-88) scored 18 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
