Regular Season Round 4: Coruna II - Estudiantes L. 77-87

Both twelfth ranked Estudiantes L. and bottom-ranked Coruna II had identical 0-1 record. But Coruna II was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Lugo 87-77 on Thursday night. The game was mostly controlled by Estudiantes L.. Coruna II was better in second period 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Coruna II to just 5 points in first quarter. Estudiantes L. forced 25 Coruna II turnovers. Coruna II was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Jose-Antonio Lopez (190-96) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and Pablo Cordoba (182-97) who added 19 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Estudiantes L. players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Ruben Rey (198-93) responded with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks and guard Pablo Ferreiro (187-98) scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Estudiantes L. (1-1) left bottom position moving up to sixth place in Group A-B, which they share with 5 other teams. Newly promoted Coruna II still closes the standings with two games lost. Estudiantes L. will face Gijon (#16) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Coruna II will play against Naron and hopes to get finally their first victory.
