Regular Season Round 5: Zornotza - Mondragon 131-97

There was no surprise in Amorebieta-Echano where bottom-ranked Mondragon (0-3) was crushed by leader Zornotza (3-0) 131-97 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 131-97. Zornotza dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Mondragon's 44. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Mondragon's players. The best player for the winners was American forward Duane Morgan (198-93, college: Adelphi) who scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Richaud Pack (191-92, college: Maryland) chipped in 22 points. Five Zornotza players scored in double figures. Zornotza's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Andoni Aranzabal (188-91) produced 26 points and Diego Lopez added 22 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Zornotza have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place in Group A-A, which they share with Santurtzi and Estela. Loser Mondragon still closes the standings with three games lost. Zornotza will face Valle de Egues (#15) in Olaz in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Mondragon will play at home against La Fecha and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
