Regular Season Round 5: Gunma - Toyotsu FE 94-74

There was a minor upset when 3rd placed Toyotsu FE (3-2) was outplayed on the road by fifth ranked Gunma (3-2) 94-74 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gunma. Toyotsu FE was better in third quarter 26-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Toyotsu FE 44-24 including 16 on the offensive glass. Gunma looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American center Ryan Stephan (208-94, college: Colorado Mesa) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) chipped in 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Masahiro Narita (185-94) responded with 14 points and 5 assists and American forward Herbert Hill (208-84, college: Providence) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Four Toyotsu FE players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gunma. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Toyotsu FE. Gunma will face again Toyotsu FE (#5) in Nagoya in the next round.
