Regular Season Round 7: SeaHorses - Toyama Grouses 82-80

A very interesting game took place in Kariya. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Toyama Grouses (3-2) to second ranked Aishin Sea Horses (4-1) 82-80 in the fight for the first place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Toyama Grouses. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Toyama Grouses were ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 25-17 third quarter run of Aishin Sea Horses. Aishin Sea Horses shot 19 for 26 from the free-throw line, while Toyama Grouses only scored 0 point from the stripe. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Toyama Grouses helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center JR Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international guard Keijuro Matsui (188-85, college: Columbia) accounted for 14 points for the winning side. American Drew Viney (204-88, college: Loyola Mary) came up with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and the other American import forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific, agency: Pensack Sports) added 12 points and 17 rebounds respectively for Toyama Grouses in the defeat. Toyama Grouses' coach Miodrag Rajkovic tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Aishin Sea Horses have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Toyama Grouses at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
