Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Le Portel (2-3) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (4-1) 83-69 on Saturday. The game without a history. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. International Charles Kahudi (199-86) stepped up and scored 11 points and 5 assists for the winners and American point guard John Roberson (180-88, college: Texas Tech) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. Four ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket players scored in double figures. American guard Trae Golden (189-91, college: Georgia Tech) responded with 18 points and the other American import power forward Franklin Hassell (205-88, college: ODU) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket moved-up to second place, which they share with Monaco and Hyeres-Toulon. Loser Le Portel dropped to the eleventh position with three games lost. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will face Pau-Lacq-Orthez (#5) on the road in the next round. Le Portel will play against JDA Dijon (#6) and hope to win that game.
