Regular Season Round 5: Iwate Big Bulls - Yamagata 74-70

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Yamagata (1-4) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Iwate Big Bulls (1-4) 74-70 on Saturday. Yamagata was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. American center Markhuri Sanders-Frison (203-88, college: California) stepped up and scored 6 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import center Michael Buchanan (213-94, college: USC Upstate) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. Iwate Big Bulls' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Billy McShepard (208-87, college: Valdosta St., agency: Blacktop Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Masanari Masanari (186-91) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Iwate Big Bulls left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Yamagata. It was Yamagata's fourth loss in a row. Iwate Big Bulls will face again Yamagata (#5) at home in the next round.
