Regular Season Round 3: Gran Canaria - Magec Tias 79-58

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Las Palmas: Gran Canaria (#2) and Magec Tias (#5). Gran Canaria (3-0) crushed visiting Magec Tias (1-2) by 21 points 79-58. The game without a history. Gran Canaria led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Gran Canaria forced 26 Magec Tias turnovers and outrebounded them 51-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Erica Covile (185, college: Temple) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 19 rebounds. Her fellow American import point guard Starr Breedlove (168-93, college: UTEP) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Keira Robinson (173, college: VCU) who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds and Argentinian power forward Ornella Santana (183-90) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Magec Tias' coach Aday Villalba gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Gran Canaria will meet Almeria (#12) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Magec Tias will play against Valencia (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
