Regular Season Round 5: Girona Basquet - Menorca 75-69

Everything went according to plan when third ranked Girona Basquet (3-1) won against at home 8th ranked Menorca (1-3) 75-69 on Sunday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 45-38 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Menorca was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Alfonso Alzamora (206-79) who scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Xavier Costa (192-84) chipped in 15 points. Girona Basquet's coach Quim Costa allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Point guard Jorge Jimenez (182-81) produced 17 points and 6 assists and power forward Andreu Matali (204-81) added 11 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Menorca players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Girona Basquet maintains third place in Group C-A with 3-1 record behind leader Mataro Feimat, which they share with Vive El Masnou. Loser Menorca dropped to the eleventh position with three games lost. Girona Basquet will face Cantaires Tortosa (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Menorca will play against Arenys and hope to win that game.
