Regular Season Round 8: Hitachi SR - Nagoya DD 77-65

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (3-3) won against 5th ranked Diamond Dolphins (1-5) in Tokyo 77-65 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 37-21 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Hitachi Sunrockers looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Josh Harrellson (208-89, college: Kentucky) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. International point guard Leo Vendrame (183-93) contributed with 14 points and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Takaya Sasayama (178-93) replied with 17 points and American forward Justin Burrell (207-88, college: St.John's) added 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Diamond Dolphins. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hitachi Sunrockers moved-up to third place, which they share with Niigata Albirex and Toyama Grouses. Diamond Dolphins lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will face Toshiba Thunders (#4) in Kanagawa in the next round. Diamond Dolphins will play at home against the league's second-placed San-en NeoPhoenix and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
