Regular Season Round 8: Osaka Evessa - Shimane SM 84-75

Date: October 15, 2017
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Shimane Magic (2-4) against sixth ranked Osaka Evessa (1-5) on Sunday night. Visiting Shimane Magic was defeated by Osaka Evessa in a tough game in Osaka 75-84. Shimane Magic trailed by 20 points after 3 quarters before a 25-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 75-84 at the end of the game. Osaka Evessa looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by American center Greg Smith (208-91, college: Fresno St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international forward Naoya Kumagae (194-90) supported him with 21 points. Even a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds by American center Garrett Stutz (214-90, college: Wichita St.) did not help to save the game for Shimane Magic. Kimitake Sato (186-84) added 24 points for the guests. Four Shimane Magic players scored in double figures. Shimane Magic's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Osaka Evessa left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Newly promoted Shimane Magic keeps the third position with four games lost. They share it with Tochigi Brex. Osaka Evessa will meet league's leader Chiba Jets on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Shimane Magic will play against the league's leader Ryukyu GK and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
