An exciting game was played in Tallinn. RSU-Merks faced Tallina U.. Guests from Riga (3-0) smashed host Tallina U. (1-2) 84-56. RSU-Merks made 23-of-27 charity shots (85.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Tallina U. turnovers and outrebounded them 45-26 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. 28 personal fouls committed by Tallina U. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Power forward Guna Lagzdina (185-93) notched a double-double by scoring 11 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and the former international guard Kristine Silaraja (172-87, college: Robert Morris) supported her with 19 points. Four RSU-Merks players scored in double figures. Even 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists by Estonian point guard Birgit Piibur (162-94) did not help to save the game for Tallina U.. Estonian guard Mirjam Nikolai (178-86) added 15 points and 5 steals for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. RSU-Merks' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Riga TTT Juniores.
