Regular Season Round 8: Hokkaido L. - Toshiba BT 77-80

Important game to mention about took place in Saporro. Fourth ranked Toshiba Thunders (4-2) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging one of their biggest challengers Hokkaido L. (4-2) 80-77 in the fight for the second place. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Hokkaido L.. Toshiba Thunders made 34-of-42 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game, while Hokkaido L. only scored ten points from the stripe. They outrebounded Hokkaido L. 47-36 including 34 on the defensive glass. Hokkaido L. was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points and 23 rebounds and the former international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) who added 12 points and 6 assists during the contest. American forward Greg Whittington (203-93, college: Rutgers) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international guard Takehiko Orimo (190-70) scored 18 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Toshiba Thunders moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Hokkaido L. Toshiba Thunders will play against Hitachi Sunrockers (#5) in Tokyo in the next round. Hokkaido L. will play on the road against Niigata Albirex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
