Rather predictable result in Auckland where New Zealand Breakers (3-1) defeated Kings (1-4) 90-73 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by New Zealand Breakers. Kings was better in fourth quarter 22-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Kings 44-25 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for New Zealand center Alex Pledger (215-87, college: Belm.Abbey) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Dominican-American point guard Edgar Sosa (190-88, college: Louisville) helped adding 19 points and 7 assists. Five New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Perry Ellis (203-93, college: Kansas) with 16 points and the other American import guard Travis Leslie (193-90, college: Georgia, agency: 3Eye) scored 10 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. New Zealand Breakers will face Bullets (#6) in Brisbane in the next round. Kings will play on the road against Illawarra Hawks in Gwynneville and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
