Regular Season Round 2: Vichy Clermont - Quimper 79-80

A very close game took place in Vichy between Quimper UJAP and JA Vichy. Quimper UJAP (2-0) got a very close victory on the road over JA Vichy (0-2). Quimper UJAP managed to escape with a 1-point win 80-79 on Friday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. JA Vichy was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Quimper UJAP made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. American center Demarco Cox (203-90, college: Georgia Tech) notched 13 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) to lead the effort and Kevin Mondesir (204-91) supported him with 16 points. Five Quimper UJAP players scored in double figures. Even 21 points and 4 assists by power forward Charles-Henri Bronchard (200-82, agency: Court Side) did not help to save the game for JA Vichy. David Denave (193-85) added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Quimper UJAP will meet Caen (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. JA Vichy will play against Nantes (#13) and hope to win that game.
