Regular Season Round 6: Pyrinto - Salon Vilpas 85-86

The most exciting game of round 6 in the Korisliiga took place in Tampere. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th ranked Tampereen Pyrinto (3-3) to third ranked Salon Vilpas (5-3) 86-85 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Tampereen Pyrinto. The guests trailed by 9 points after three quarters before their 26-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Tampereen Pyrinto outrebounded Salon Vilpas 40-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Aaron Jones (206-93, college: Mississippi) had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Tobin Carberry (193-91, college: LIU Post, agency: HMS) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Carberry is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was forward Devonne Giles (203-83, college: Texas Tech) with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and Brian Asbury (201-86, college: Miami, FL) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Salon Vilpas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Tampereen Pyrinto at the other side dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Korihait and Kauhajoki. Salon Vilpas are looking forward to face Espoo United (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tampereen Pyrinto will have a break next round.
