Regular Season Round 4: Almeria - Gran Canaria 75-100

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Almeria (1-3) was outleveled at home by top-ranked Gran Canaria (4-0) 100-75 on Saturday. The game without a history. Gran Canaria led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Almeria's 44 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Gran Canaria forced 25 Almeria turnovers. Quite impressive performance for American guard Erica Covile (185, college: Temple) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. The other American import point guard Starr Breedlove (168-93, college: UTEP) contributed with 32 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Power forward Claudia Baraut (185-94) replied with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Concepcion Sanchez added 25 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) in the effort for Almeria. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of Group B leader, which they share with Leganes and Real Canoe. Almeria lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the ninth place with three games lost. Gran Canaria will face Real Canoe (#3) in Madrid in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Almeria will play on the road against Valencia (#5) and hope to win that game.
