Regular Season Round 9: Toyama Grouses - Kyoto Hannar. 93-92

A very interesting game took place in Toyama. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-best Kyoto Hannar. (5-3) to fourth ranked Toyama Grouses (4-4) 93-92 on Saturday evening. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-21. But Kyoto Hannar. won second period 25-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for Toyama Grouses especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 58.8 percentage. It was a good game for forward Naoki Uto (188-91) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific, agency: Pensack Sports) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Five Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. Zimbabwean-American Julian Mavunga (203-90, college: Miami, OH, agency: Pensack Sports) answered with 20 points and 6 assists and American center Joshua Smith (208-92, college: Georgetown) added 16 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Kyoto Hannar.Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Toyama Grouses moved-up to second place, which they share with San-en and Shimane SM. Kyoto Hannar. at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Toyama Grouses' next round opponent will be Diamond Dolphins (#4) in Nagoya. Kyoto Hannar. will play at home against the league's second-placed Ryukyu GK and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
