Regular Season Round 4: Oviedo - Rioja 66-84

Date: October 22, 2017
Bottom-ranked Oviedo is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to sixth ranked Rioja (3-1) 84-66 on Sunday evening. Rioja dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Oviedo's 38. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by American center Erika Livermore (185-93, college: Fair Dickinson) who scored that evening 30 points and 9 rebounds and DR Congolese-Belgian center Harriet Bende (186-94) supported her with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Even 16 points and 8 rebounds by center Carolina Ramos (190-93) did not help to save the game for Oviedo. Point guard Maria Gonzalez (172-98) added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Four Oviedo players scored in double figures. Oviedo's coach Enrique Urrutia tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Rioja have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in Group A, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Oviedo still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Ascensores Tresa and Segle XXI. Rioja will meet at home league's leader Real Celta Vigo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Oviedo will play against Lima-Horta (#6) in Barcelona and hopes to get finally their first victory.
