Regular Season Round 8: Aomori Watts - Akita NH 66-67

Sixth-ranked Aomori Watts (0-8) gave a tough game to top-ranked Akita Happinets (8-0). The visitors from Akita managed to secure only one-point victory 67-66. However their fans expected much easier game. It looked good early as Aomori Watts took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Akita Happinets had a 16-13 second period charge getting the lead and Aomori Watts were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 66-67. Akita Happinets forced 23 Aomori Watts turnovers. The winners were led by international guard Shigehiro Taguchi (184-90) who scored that evening 16 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and Bahamas power forward Kadeem Coleby (206-89, college: Wichita St.) supported him with 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Coleby is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists by American forward Joe Burton (201-90, college: Oregon St.) did not help to save the game for Aomori Watts. His fellow American import center Kyle Barone (208-89, college: Idaho) added 11 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Akita Happinets have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-0 record. Aomori Watts at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Akita Happinets will play against Yamagata (#4) on the road in the next round. Aomori Watts will play against Iwate Big Bulls and hope to get finally their first victory.
