Regular Season Round 8: Sendai 89ers - Iwate Big Bulls 76-60

Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked Iwate Big Bulls (2-6) were defeated on the road by third ranked Sendai 89ers (4-4) 76-60 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Sendai 89ers. Iwate Big Bulls was better in third quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Iwate Big Bulls 38-27 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of U.S. Virgin Islands center Craig Williams (206-89, college: TCU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and guard Ryunosuke Yanagawa (187-91) who added 18 points and 5 assists during the contest. Sendai 89ers' coach Toshihiro Goto used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Markhuri Sanders-Frison (203-88, college: California) responded with 12 points and 7 rebounds and guard Ohara Yoshimasa (186-89) scored 15 points. Sendai 89ers maintains third position with 4-4 record having just three points less than leader Gunma, which they share with Toyotsu FE. Loser Iwate Big Bulls keep the fifth place with six games lost. Sendai 89ers will face league's second-placed Fukushima at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Iwate Big Bulls will play against Aomori Watts and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
