Regular Season Round 5: Real Madrid - Unicaja 99-85
Date: October 22, 2017
Not a big story in a game when 6th ranked Unicaja Malaga (3-2) was defeated on the road by leader Real Madrid (5-0) 99-85 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Real Madrid. Unicaja Malaga was better in second period 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Real Madrid looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American-Azerbaijani Jaycee Carroll (188-83) stepped up and scored 29 points for the winners and Slovenian guard Luka Doncic (201-99) chipped in 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American point guard Ray McCallum (190-91, college: Detroit Mercy) responded with 15 points and 4 assists and the other American import Jeffrey Brooks (203-89, college: Penn St.) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Four Unicaja Malaga players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Real Madrid. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Fuenlabrada. Loser Unicaja Malaga dropped to the seventh place with two games lost. Real Madrid will face Burgos (#17) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Unicaja Malaga will play against Movil Estudiantes (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
