Regular Season Round 5: Malbas - Koping Stars 80-98

Very expected game in Malmo where 6th ranked Malbas (3-4) were defeated by leader Koping Stars (6-0) 98-80 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Koping Stars. Malbas was better in third quarter 30-28. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Koping Stars forced 22 Malbas turnovers and outrebounded them 37-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Center Mikael Axelsson (207-94) stepped up and scored 31 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Serbian guard Aleksa Solevic (188-93, agency: Dynamics Global Management) chipped in 18 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. Guard Kasper Hagberg (185-98) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and Antiguan-American point guard Jermelle Fraser (186-87, college: SUNY Maritime) scored 12 points and 4 assists. Four Malbas players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Koping Stars. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Djurgarden. Loser Malbas dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. Koping Stars will face league's leader Djurgarden in Stockholm in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
