Regular Season Round 6: Toyota A. - Denso Iris 81-78 OT

Toyota A. (5-1) survived in overtime against Denso Iris (4-2) by three points 81-78 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Denso Iris. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-16. But Denso Iris won second period 18-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Denso Iris used huge pressure winning it 15-8 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 8-11. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Moeko Nagaoka (180-93) who scored 25 points and 8 rebounds. The former international power forward Evelyn Mawuli (180-95) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. Toyota A.'s coach Don Beck used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) who recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and center Himawari Akaho (181-98) added 28 points and 13 rebounds respectively. Toyota A. moved-up to second place. Denso Iris at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Toyota A. will have a break next round. Denso Iris will play on the road against Chanson V-M in Shizuoka and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
