Regular Season Round 9: Kanazawa Sam. - Gunma 67-79

The biggest surprise of round 9 took place in Ishikawa where guest Gunma (#1) beat lower ranked Kanazawa Sam. (#2) by 12 points 79-67 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kanazawa Sam.. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Gunma looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Ryan Stephan (208-94, college: Colorado Mesa) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Fumiya Fumiya (186-77) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Gunma's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Andrew Fitzgerald (202-90, college: Oklahoma) who recorded 27 points and 7 rebounds and guard Ide Yuji (181-88) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Gunma maintains first place with 6-3 record, which they share with Shinshu BW. Newly promoted Kanazawa Sam. dropped to the third position with four games lost. They share it with Hiroshima D.. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
