The most exciting game of round 4 in the WNBL took place in Adelaide. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Canberra Capitals (2-5) to first ranked Adelaide Lightning (5-1) 80-77 on Wednesday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Canberra Capitals won fourth quarter 22-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Adelaide Lightning made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game, while Canberra Capitals only scored two points from the stripe. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Abby Bishop (189-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) and American guard Natalie Novosel (180-89, college: Notre Dame, agency: LBM Management) who added 17 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side American center Mistie Bass (191-83, college: Duke) responded with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international point guard Natalie Hurst (164-83) scored 13 points and 6 assists. Four Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Adelaide Lightning have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-1 record. Canberra Capitals lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with five games lost. Adelaide Lightning are looking forward to face Townsville Fire (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Canberra Capitals will play against the league's second-placed Sydney Uni Flames (#2) and are hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
