Regular Season Round 5: BM Slam Stal - Asseco 76-80

Not a big story in a game in Ostrow Wlkp. where 9th ranked BM Slam Stal (2-2) was defeated by second ranked Asseco (4-1) 80-76 on Saturday. BM Slam Stal was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Asseco dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to BM Slam Stal's 22. The former international forward Piotr Szczotka (196-81, agency: Alti Sport) stepped up and scored 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and swingman Przemyslaw Zolnierewicz (196-95) chipped in 17 points. Four Asseco players scored in double figures. American point guard Aaron Johnson (173-88, college: UAB, agency: Two Points) responded with 22 points and 6 assists and Croatian forward Jure Skific (202-88, agency: 011 Sports) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. BM Slam Stal's coach Emil Rajkovic tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Asseco maintains second place with 4-1 record behind leader Anwil. Loser BM Slam Stal dropped to the twelfth position with two games lost. Asseco will face GTK (#16) in Gliwice in the next round which should be an easy win for them. BM Slam Stal will play at home against Start (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
