Regular Season Round 5: Barca CBS - Cortegada 57-47

There was a surprise result in Barcelona where eighth ranked Barca CBS (3-2) defeated 4th placed Cortegada (3-2) 57-47 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 36-25 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. American forward Laura Johnson (182-91, college: Sioux Falls) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import guard Sheila Dixon (178, college: Brown) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Senegalese center Amy Syll (196-93, agency: ProDep Management) responded with 19 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Salome Garcia (175-92, agency: ProDep Management) scored 7 points and 9 rebounds. Barca CBS moved-up to fifth place in Group A, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Cortegada. Barca CBS will face Ascensores Tresa (#11) in Gijon in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Cortegada will play at home against Joventut LC (#9) and hope to win that game.
