Regular Season Round 5: La Roda - Martorell 79-77

Bottom-ranked Martorell (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 79-77 loss to tenth ranked La Roda (3-2) in La Roda on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-16. But Martorell won second period 16-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. La Roda looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American guard DeAngelo Hailey (190-90, college: NW Missouri St.) stepped up and scored 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Chadian center Placide Nakidjim (205-94) chipped in 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Xavi Guirao (190-87) responded with 20 points and guard David Jofresa (185-95) scored 12 points and 7 assists. Four Martorell players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. La Roda moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Martorell at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Aquimisa LZ. La Roda will meet Zamorano (#15) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Martorell will play against Myrtia and hopes to get finally their first victory.
