Regular Season Round 5: Valencia - Almeria 67-46

Date: October 28, 2017
Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Almeria (1-4) was rolled over on the road by fifth ranked Valencia (4-1) 67-46 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Valencia. Almeria was better in fourth quarter 13-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Almeria to just 4 points in third quarter. Valencia forced 21 Almeria turnovers and outrebounded them 37-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. Swingman Irene Gari (185-94, college: Georgia Tech, agency: ProDep Management) stepped up and scored 19 points and 4 steals for the winners and Mali power forward Meiya Tirera (186-86, agency: ProDep Management) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Power forward Alicia Gonzalez (187-86) responded with 18 points and Bosnian center Samra Omerbasic (191-90, agency: PEPI SPORT) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Valencia. They moved-up to third place in Group B, which they share with Real Canoe. Almeria lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Valencia will face league's leader Gran Canaria in Las Palmas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Almeria will play at home against the league's second-placed Leganes (#2) and hope to win that game.
