Regular Season Round 9: Gent Hawks - Melsele 78-90

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Gent Hawks' (3-6) home loss to ninth ranked Melsele (4-4) 78-90 on Saturday. Melsele dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Gent Hawks' 32. It was a great shooting night for Melsele especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Sam Caron (186-93, college: Francis Marion) stepped up and scored 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Dutch power forward Patrick Hilliman (206-82, college: High Point) chipped in 18 points. Five Melsele players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Joeri Vermoessen (200-93) with 26 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Joren Vermoessen (201-93) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Melsele moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Neufchateau. Loser Gent Hawks dropped to the eleventh position with six games lost. Melsele will meet at home league's leader Spirou B in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gent Hawks will play against Soba (#6) and hope to secure a win.
